AcropolisDescent
A downloadable game for Windows
AcropolisDescent
Developed with AI
AcropolisDescent is a solo-developed game created with extensive use of AI throughout its development process.
The worldbuilding, setting, overall game direction, and game design were created by the developer. GPT was used extensively for implementation and production, while music and sound effects were created with Suno.
The use of AI is openly disclosed both here and within the game. Third-party assets and licenses are documented separately according to their respective sources and usage terms.
How far can a single developer go when using AI as a development tool?
Descend Deeper
The surface is no longer a place where humanity can survive.
Human civilization now continues within enormous underground structures.
You are an explorer descending into the depths of Acropolis, where abandoned facilities, forgotten records, strange phenomena, and dangerous creatures await.
Explore Floors 7 through 12, overcome enemies and anomalies, defeat the guardians of each floor, and continue your descent.
At the end of the journey lies the massive gate on Floor 13.
Explore. Fight. Return Alive.
Every expedition begins in your shelter.
Choose an explorer, prepare your equipment and supplies, customize your starting deck, and descend into the underground.
During an expedition, you may encounter:
- Normal and elite battles
- Floor bosses
- Choice-based events
- Anomalies
- Merchants
- Safe rooms
- NPC encounters
- Hidden Unregistered Compartments
The deeper you go, the more opportunities you have to strengthen your deck and gather valuable resources.
But nothing you find matters if you cannot bring it back.
Knowing when to keep descending and when to return is part of the game.
Three Explorers
Kang Doyoon — Assault Explorer
An aggressive explorer focused on Strike chains, Bleed, self-damage, and low-HP bonuses.
His playstyle rewards taking risks and maintaining offensive momentum.
Vera Sokolova — Infiltration Explorer
A fast-paced explorer built around zero-cost cards, card cycling, and Poison.
Her playstyle rewards chaining multiple cards together and building momentum through efficient actions.
Lena Weiss — Technical Explorer
A defensive specialist focused on Block, Charge, Erosion, and resource conversion.
She can accumulate Charge across turns and convert it into powerful attacks, defense, energy, or additional card draw.
210 Cards
AcropolisDescent currently contains 210 different cards.
Each explorer has their own exclusive card pool, alongside a shared pool of cards available to every character.
Build your deck around mechanics such as:
Bleed / Poison / Rupture / Erosion / Charge / Self-Damage / Zero-Cost / Draw / Block / Combo
Cards can also gain special modifiers that significantly change how they behave:
Radiant / Shadow / Efficient / Priority / Hacked / Holding
The same card can serve a completely different purpose depending on its modifier, equipment setup, and the rest of your deck.
88 Pieces of Equipment
Cards are only one part of your build.
AcropolisDescent currently contains 88 pieces of equipment across four slots:
- Necklace
- Gloves
- Ring
- Arcgear
Equipment does more than provide simple stat bonuses.
Many pieces activate when you inflict status effects, play specific card types, begin a turn, or meet other combat conditions.
Combining the right equipment with the right deck can completely change the way an expedition plays.
Time Itself Is a Threat
Every expedition is affected by a time-based phenomenon known as the Diseffect.
At first, the underground environment remains stable.
As in-game time passes, the Diseffect enters a warning state and eventually becomes fully active.
During dangerous phases:
- Enemy HP increases
- Enemy damage increases
- Reward rarity may improve
- Some unexplored battles may become elite encounters
- Exposure may reduce your maximum HP during the expedition
- Parts of the map may be rearranged
Time advances through exploration, waiting, descending between floors, and certain retry actions.
How greedy are you willing to be before you turn back?
A Changing Underground
Each floor is generated as a connected network of rooms and corridors.
Unvisited locations may hide their true room type until you approach or scan them.
Your scanner can reveal nearby locations and may occasionally uncover something that does not appear on the normal map:
Unregistered Compartments
These optional hidden areas may contain rare events, elite encounters, valuable rewards, or dangerous opportunities.
They are never required to complete the game, but discovering one may significantly change the course of an expedition.
Defeat Is Not Always the End
Losing a battle does not necessarily mean losing the entire expedition.
You may retry from the beginning of the battle or return to the shelter state from before the expedition.
However, repeated retries can consume additional in-game time.
That additional time can push your expedition closer to the next Diseffect phase.
Even failure has consequences.
Return. Prepare. Descend Again.
When you successfully return from an expedition, collected supplies are transferred back to your shelter.
You may also choose a limited number of newly acquired cards to carry forward into future expeditions.
Upgrade your shelter, unlock new crafting options, prepare stronger equipment, refine your deck, and descend again.
Core Gameplay Loop
Explore → Survive → Return → Prepare → Descend Deeper
